On the surface, I look like any other woman. My days are filled with laundry, cooking, and cleaning up after the dog. But beneath the surface, I live a very different life than most.

 

In 2018, I was a victim of crime. While waiting for trial, he became relentless in his pursuit to silence me. This led to another two criminal charges against him, in spite of my having both a civil and criminal protective order. My journey through the judicial system was nothing like what you see on television. It was frustrating. It was difficult. And taking the witness stand to testify against the perpetrator that turned my life upside down was worth it when he was convicted on the first charge in 2020.

 

After an infuriatingly short sentence on all three charges, and two probation violations, I chose to enter a clandestine life. I quit my job, changed my name, relocated, and deleted all social media profiles. Even so, after he completed probation, he was arrested, again, for violating the protective order and attempting to locate me. He continues his hunt and the thought of him finding me haunts every decision I make.

 

With a Bachelor of Arts in the English degree family, I turned to writing. I've always been an avid reader, and writing stories a hobby since I was 14. But with a new name, in a strange place and no job, it became my passion. I wrote my first book in 2022, using my personal experience with crime to write an alternate ending to my own story. I fell in love with the thrill of writing plot twists with characters developed from the recesses of my imagination. After writing three books, Meredith Forde is the pseudonym I created when I decided to venture down the dark, scary path of publishing.

For three years, I haven’t had a digital footprint. Even with a pseudonym, I hope it doesn’t lead him to me.
